Arizona Political & Congressional Papers Archivist

ASU Library seeks an Arizona Political & Congressional Papers Archivist to join our Community-Driven Archives team as a key contributor to archival services. This is a Continuing Appointment track Academic Professional position reporting to the Head of Community-Driven Archives. The Archivist applies appropriate professional standards and best practices to process and make accessible archival political and Congressional collections in all formats, and provides research services and instructional support for the use of these collections. The Library holds a wide range of political and Congressional collections, including the Senator John S. McCain Papers, the Carl T. Hayden Papers, the papers of Barry M. Goldwater, the records of the Arizona AFL-CIO, and related farm workers and labor union collections. Through 2024, the Archivist will serve as project manager to complete a major grant-funded initiative to process and make available the papers of the late Senator John S. McCain, including articulation of best practices guidelines for archival Congressional papers collections.

The Arizona Political & Congressional Papers Archivist provides leadership in collections management and works closely with colleagues and researchers engaged with government information, political science, social justice and legal issues, local history, and other related disciplinary subjects. Through professional contributions, research, and service activities, the Archivist contributes to enhancing archival services, building shared knowledge, and collaborating to develop the Library’s capacities to engage with all of ASU’s communities with emphasis on communities historically underserved by archives within Arizona. The Community-Driven Archives unit centers the lives and voices of historically marginalized communities in the southwest region, including Latinx, Black, Indigenous, Asian and Pacific Islander, and LGBTQ communities.  This unit employs a team-based approach to collections services, including community engagement programs, reading and reference services, instruction for ASU courses and community colleges, and other activities supporting education with primary source materials. The Archivist fulfills the responsibilities expected of Academic Professionals holding a Continuing Track appointment, including position effectiveness, professional contributions, and service.

A center of energy, imagination and innovation, the ASU Library is home to eight library facilities across four ASU campus locations – providing students and faculty access to millions of information resources, world-class collections, outstanding study spaces, advanced data centers and a suite of makerspaces.
