The College of Theology & Christian Ministry at Belmont University is seeking applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor beginning August 1, 2023.

The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in counseling or counselor education from a regionally accredited doctoral granting institution and will possess specialized skills enabling the candidate to effectively teach and mentor doctoral candidates including chairing dissertations. Ability to teach face to face, online, and/or blended learning formats is required. The candidate will have graduate level instructional experience, as well as subject matter expertise and be licensure eligible in Tennessee as a professional counselor.
The Mental Health Counseling Ph.D. program culminates with dissertation research that addresses real research in authentic settings for the purpose of informing counseling practice. Job responsibilities include teaching primarily doctoral level courses in face-to-face and online delivery formats and serving as a dissertation committee chair for doctoral committees. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and college, university and community service. This role may include some program coordination activities and responsibilities as needed.

  • Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the
    field of study.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, and serving on dissertation committees for doctoral level students.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly
    activity and conduct research including statistical analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
  • Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University's online integrated database system for student grading.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a professional counselor in Tennessee.
Required Education The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in counseling or counselor education from a regionally accredited doctoral granting institution. The candidate will also have: • Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of study. • Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught. • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a professional counselor in Tennessee.

Required Experience Successful candidates will have: • 1 year experience teaching, mentoring, and serving on dissertation committees for doctoral level students. • Specialized skills enabling the candidate to effectively teach and mentor doctoral candidates. • The ability to teach face to face, online, and in blended learning formats. • The candidate will have at least 1 year instructional experience in graduate level counselor education programs, as well as subject matter expertise, and demonstrated professional experience in counselor education. • The successful candidate must be licensed or licensure eligible as a professional counselor in Tennessee.
