Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:


Position purpose: Reporting to the Director of the Medical and Health Sciences Library, the Research & Learning Services Librarian for Medicine will be responsible for developing and implementing course-integrated instruction and workshops, research support services, and collection development to support the research, teaching and learning needs of the Frist College of Medicine students and faculty. In addition to these primary responsibilities, this position will be an integral part of a team of librarians that will develop this brand new branch library on campus, in support of all relevant medical and health related programs, including the College of Pharmacy and the College of Health Sciences & Nursing, in addition to the developing College of Medicine.

Job functions:
  • Initiate and build strong relationships with primary liaison area, the College of Medicine faculty, staff, and students.
  • Work in collaboration with the College of Medicine faculty and staff to integrate information literacy and evidence based medicine instruction throughout the curriculum.
  • Provide reference or instructional support to other health-related disciplines on campus on topics of interprofessional interest in order to support the broader mission of the Medical and Health Sciences Library
  • Provide reference assistance, in-depth research consultations, and literature searches to support student and faculty scholarship.
  • Contribute to the development of the library website including LibGuides and LibAnswers.
  • Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Belmont University and the Frist College of Medicine.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and professional development. Scholarship requirements for library faculty are described in section 2.3 of the Faculty Handbook.
  • Engage in service activities on campus and in the community.
  • Participate in a local church in order to actively support Belmont’s mission to be a Christ-centered university.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of instructional design and assessment.
  • Knowledge of evidence based medicine principles.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in medical libraries.
  • Knowledge of resources and collections to support medical education.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach information literacy or evidence based medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth searches of the medical literature using PubMed and other health science databases.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong user-focused public services orientation.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in teams and in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to take initiative and remain flexible in a new and developing medical library.
  • Ability to develop and manage complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Required Education ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science.

Required Experience Relevant library or course experience, preferably in a health science setting. Knowledge of advanced searching techniques in health sciences databases including PubMed. Experience teaching information literacy or evidence based medicine in a health sciences setting preferred. Recent graduates or early career librarians who have an interest in medical librarianship are encouraged to apply.
