Detailed Job Description
The School of Design in the College of Art and Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites individuals to apply for a non-tenure track Lecturer position to teach in the Industrial Design (ID) program. The Industrial Design program focuses on developing strong conceptual and formal design skills. Students are engaged in the theory, process, and practice of design throughout the undergraduate and graduate curriculums. The Industrial Design program is consistently ranked amongst the top programs in the nation for undergraduate and graduate study.

Faculty Position: Industrial Design
We are seeking candidates who are well-rounded designers and educators with significant teaching and professional experience. Demonstrated technical skills such as visualization, communication, modeling and prototyping common in design practice in both professional and student work is important. Candidates should be qualified to teach throughout the Industrial Design curriculum. Expectations include teaching graduate and/or undergraduate studio and lecture courses; teaching a full load of four courses per term; participating in innovative teaching and curriculum development; rendering service to the program and school; career advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; and participating in professional organizations important to the field of industrial design.

Department/College Description
THE DEPARTMENT:
The School of Design is comprised of five undergraduate programs, two graduate programs, and the Vignelli Center for Design Studies. University Archives, the Vignelli Center, and the Cary Graphics Arts Collection house a world-renowned collection of design artifacts that are core to research and primary resource educational treasures. The undergraduate programs include: 3D Digital Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and New Media Design. The graduate programs are: Visual Communication Design and Industrial Design. Approximately 800 undergraduate and 100 graduate students are enrolled in the School of Design. SoD provides a creative community where students have the opportunity to discover their unique talents and expressive potential, while at the same time developing the skills needed to fulfill any creative or technical role in the expansive fields of design. Our faculty are recognized scholars and practitioners in the fields of design and our alumni are leaders at the most dynamic and recognized design-related companies, as well as being recognized with prestigious awards from Adobe, AIGA, GDUSA, IDSA, Paperboard Packaging Alliance, and Society of Typographic Arts. Required Minimum Qualifications
  • A terminal degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Interaction Design (MFA, MID, PhD) or a related field of study.
  • Minimum of two years professional experience or extensive consulting in a relevant field.
  • Three years or equivalent experience teaching both lecture and/or studio courses in a relevant field at the university level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in one or more of the following: product design, user experience and interaction design, service design, sustainability design, materials design, design and technology, emerging industrial design practices, design theory, design history, design methodology.
  • Demonstrated technical skills such as visualization, communication, modeling and prototyping common in design practice in both professional and student work.
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
