Job Description:

The Department of Psychology at the University of Florida (UF) seeks applications for a diversity focused cluster hiring initiative. The cluster is comprised of two Assistant Professor positions and one Assistant/Associate position. The positions will begin August 16, 2023 and are full-time, nine-month, tenure-accruing positions.
  • (2) positions will be in the counseling psychology area:
  • One assistant professor
  • One assistant/associate professor. For candidates coming in at the associate level, there will be an expectation of assuming the role of Training Director one year after joining the faculty.
  • (1) assistant professor position will be open area to any of these five areas in the department (developmental psychology, social psychology, behavior analysis, behavioral and cognitive neuroscience, counseling psychology)

  • These positions are part of a diversity focused cluster hire within the Department of Psychology. We are actively recruiting candidates who can contribute to the diversity, equity, inclusivity, and excellence of the academic community at UF and in our department. Applicants will be expected to maintain an outstanding program of research with high potential for external funding, teach psychology graduate and undergraduate courses, advise students, and provide service to the institution.

    Specifically, the department seeks applicants who conduct research at the individual, community, and/or systemic level with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion, broadly defined. This could include applicants with research that is with, or particularly relevant to, people from marginalized communities including (but not limited to) Black, Indigenous, and Other People of Color (BIPOC), queer, transgender and gender diverse communities, immigrants, lower SES communities, and people with disabilities. It could also include applicants with expertise in diversity science whose research is in the areas of race, racism, and inequality. The positions are open to candidates who employ a wide variety of methodological tools or approaches (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, experimental methods, etc.).

    UF is ranked the 5th best public university in the United States by US News and World Report 2022, with exceptional research, teaching, and a university-wide commitment to diversity. The Department of Psychology has 5 established

    research and training areas in behavior analysis, behavioral and cognitive neuroscience, counseling, social, and developmental psychology.

    UF is located in Gainesville, a city of approximately 150,000 residents in North-Central Florida, 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, and within a 2-hour drive to large metropolitan areas (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville). The beautiful climate and extensive nearby parks and recreational areas afford year-round outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, and nature photography. UF's large college sports programs, museums, and performing arts center support a range of activities and cultural events for residents to enjoy. Alachua County schools are highly rated and offer a variety of programs including magnet schools and an international baccalaureate program.

    Expected Salary:

    The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a full benefits package.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Applicants should have earned a doctorate degree in counseling psychology or a closely related field for the counseling positions, and a degree in psychology or closely related field for the open area positions, by the start date of the position -- August 16, 2023.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Succesful candidates will conduct research at the individual, community, and/or systemic level with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion, broadly defined and will also be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise doctoral students and provide service to the Department and Institution.
