Sidwell Friends, a co-educational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD, seeks a full-time English teachers for its Upper School division starting in the 2023/24 school year.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and will show a willingness to work collaboratively and independently in an environment committed to academic excellence, equity, justice, service, and students’ social emotional wellness.

Candidates must be comfortable teaching courses in our existing core curriculum, which primarily involves a diverse array of American and Anglophone literature. We are particularly interested in candidates who can enrich our existing senior curriculum with new courses on topics such as African American literature, science fiction, world mythology, Asian American literature, poetry in translation, etc. An appreciation for adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential. A bachelor’s degree in English literature is required (advanced degree preferred).

Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based; therefore, this position requires teaching in person. This position begins in August 2023.
