DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

Since 1952, California State University, Sacramento has remained committed to training highly competent professionals in the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology and to providing the community with exceptional speech, language, swallowing and hearing services.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders continues this commitment by providing speech-language pathology and audiology services to the metropolitan Sacramento community through our on-campus clinic, the Maryjane Rees Language, Speech, and Hearing Center. Through the campus-based clinic, graduate students evaluate and treat communication disorders under close supervision by faculty who are nationally certified and state licensed speech-language pathologists and audiologists. The Department offers the Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, the Second Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSAD2B-CCE), the Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degrees. POSITION DETAILS:

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is seeking two (2) 12-month, full-time, tenure track faculty, anticipated to start in the Fall of 2023. This appointment will involve teaching, research, supervision of doctorate of audiology projects, as well as university and community service.

The classification annual salary range for this position is $64,860 - $143,928; the anticipated annual starting salary is $74,642.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Teaching a variety of Undergraduate and Graduate Coursework in Communication Science and Disorders, including graduate-level audiology clinical methods and theory courses.
  • Clinical supervision in the university's clinic and/or off-campus clinical sites.
  • Academic advisement of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Scholarly activities, including pursuing research agendas that support chairing and serving on student doctoral project committees.
  • Service on Department, College, and University committees.
  • Service to the campus and the community.
  • Liaison with local professional networks in audiology.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Au.D. (with documented research experience), Au.D./Ph.D., or Ph.D. in Audiology, Hearing Science, or a related field. ABD will be considered, but all requirements for the doctorate must be completed by August 2023.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse group of students.
  • Potential for research and scholarly activities, such as, but not limited to, peer-reviewed presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and grants. (i.e., demonstrated interested in, learning about, gaining experience in, and being receptive to feedback to improve in scholarly and creative activity).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possession of, or immediately eligible for, California state licensure in audiology and hearing aid dispenser license (by start date).
  • Possession of, or eligible for, ASHA CCC-A (ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology; by start date).
  • Previous clinical experience.
  • Potential for or experience with clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring and working effectively with first-generation college and underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to antiracism and inclusion.
  • Potential for department, university, and community service. (i.e., demonstrated interested in, learning about, gaining experience in, and being receptive to feedback to improve in department, university, and community service in higher education).
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work with students, staff, and colleagues in a diverse academic community.

  3. Unofficial transcripts showing the highest degree completed. Applicants who are ABD are required to submit a letter from their dissertation chair with the expected date of completion with transcripts.
  4. A teaching philosophy statement that demonstrates the candidate's potential or experience in teaching in higher education.*
  5. A diversity statement that describes the candidate's demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse group of students and demonstrated ability to interact with students, faculty and staff in a diverse academic community.
  6. A statement of scholarly interests that support the development of a research agenda at Sac State.
  7. Proof of ASHA CCC-A or eligibility (PRAXIS scores and transcript showing terminal degree).
  8. Applicants with Au.D. only (i.e., no Ph.D.) are required to submit a portfolio demonstrating research experience.
  9. Names and contact information of three professional references.

OTHER SPECIFICS ABOUT THE POSITION (Optional):

The Department has a state-of-the-art audiology clinic with an additional 6,000 square feet of clinical space built in the fall of 2021 that includes 5 booths and 5 consultation rooms, a vestibular lab with rotary chair, a variety of equipment (electrophysiology, hearing aids, diagnostics, etc.) as well as a student computer room. All full-time Au.D. program faculty in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders receive 3 additional units of release time for research and scholarly activity to chair and support doctoral research projects.

The Department has rich interprofessional opportunities within Folsom Hall on the south end of campus with additional opportunities to collaborate with departments across campus. Located in Sacramento, our department offers the opportunity for collaborative working relationships with faculty and clinicians at local clinics, schools, and university medical centers. The candidate would enter into a fully established department with four cohorts of Au.D. students. This position would offer campus resources to support the candidate's teaching, research, and service activities.
