Advanced Assistant/Associate Professor Joint Appointment- Community Schools

Job Description:

Binghamton University, a premier public, highly ranked research university, seeks an Advanced Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure-Track/Tenured) to serve as a central member of our University-Assisted Community Schools (UACS) efforts. This position will be a joint appointment in our fast-growing Departments of Social Work (.5) and Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership (.5) in the College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA). Other departments included in CCPA include Human Development, Public Administration, and Student Affairs Administration. Additionally, CCPA offers Interdisciplinary doctoral programs in Community Research and Action (PhD) and Education Theory, Research, and Practice (EdD). Faculty members in CCPA take advantage of classroom and office space on both the main campus in Vestal and the University Downtown Campus, located in the heart of the city of Binghamton, in close proximity to local agencies. We seek an outstanding colleague to join a dynamic and collaborative team of scholars committed to the UACS model. The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate an established reputation, including an exceptional and sustainable record of scholarship and external funding focused on community-school partnerships, wraparound models, community schools, or similar areas to further strengthen our growing programs, however, strong assistant professors who possess an outstanding record will be considered.

In the selection process, the search committee will prioritize collaborative scholars who: (1) engage in nationally recognized work, (2) pursue grants, awards, and other sources of funding to support research, academic programming, student success, and impact, (3) demonstrate an eagerness to contribute to undergraduate and graduate training, and (4) work with diverse populations or on questions of equity. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Requirements:

Required qualifications include an earned doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant field (e.g., education, social work, counseling) with at least 3 years of post-doctoral experience and experience in Community Schools or related areas such as school-based mental health programs or school-community-university partnerships.

Other preferred qualifications include:

• a strong research record that embraces concepts of social justice and demonstrates success in obtaining external funding and publishing in highly ranked, peer-reviewed journals;
• an ability to conceptualize highly rigorous research studies that promote diversity and equity, and the study of the representation of marginalized communities or institutional inequalities;
• a commitment to achieving collective impact through partnerships focused on continuous improvement with youth, families, schools, and communities;
• evidence as a collaborative leader with a history of strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including government, higher education, and school administrators; and
• a commitment to teaching, including experience with teaching in-person and/or online (teaching responsibilities will be determined based on the applicant's experience and background and may include a combination of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses); and
• experience training and mentoring graduate-level scholars engaged in research promoting social justice, especially how to develop the tools necessary to collect reliable/valid, or trustworthy/fair data.
