Job Description

Part-time Faculty to be an instructor for CSE643 Computer Security (3 credits). (Online course)

Course description: Operating system security. Unix security. Trusted Computing Base. Authentication. Access control. Security models. Capability. Sandboxing. Software vulnerabilities. Worms. Viruses. Secure engineering principles. Secure programming. Auditing. Forensics.

Engineering@Syracuse instructors will conduct a 105 minute synchronous or live section each week with 10-20 students at the same time each week for 10 weeks. Course is offered 4 times per year. The live session dates for the Sprig 2023 term are as follows:
Wednesday, March 29 through Tuesday, June 20. These dates are followed by a week of finals.

This position is anticipated to be filled on a fully remote basis. Not all geographical areas within the United States are eligible.

Qualifications

PhD (preferred) or Master’s Degree (required).
Significant teaching or professional experience in the field.

Job Specific Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD (preferred) or Master’s Degree (required) related to Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Additional qualifications include:
•Teaching experience or significant professional experience in a related field
•Experience with instructional design and online teaching preferred
•The ability to be self-directed with broadly-defined limits on assignments
•Excellent communication skills, both oral and written candidates will have:
•A demonstrated ability to interact effectively and efficiently with diverse people in a highly multidisciplinary environment
•Interest in learning to use new technological tools to engage students in a virtual classroom environment

Responsibilities

Conduct live discussions each week based on the lead faculty’s direction from material covered asynchronously, potential questions that may have come from students, items in the news that may apply to course concepts, how students are doing on assignments, etc.
•View asynchronous content in advance of each weekly live session
•Meet all designated class periods
•Grade assignments and exams; Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours
•Submit progress reports and final grades according to University regulations
•Curriculum development of three credit courses offered in 11-week quarters with alternating asynchronous and live sessions
•Student support, including online advising and office hours
•Coordinate with faculty teaching or developing the same courses online or on-campus
