Lecturer in Human Geography (Non-Tenure Track, F0168A1)

Old Dominion University’s Department of Political Science and Geography invites applications for a Lecturer position in its geography program with an emphasis on human geography, to begin in Fall 2023.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master’s degree in geography or closely related field and a demonstrated ability for quality teaching.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who can teach a range of in person and online courses focusing on human geography at the undergraduate level, such as introductory human geography, urban or economic geography, a regional geography course, and/or human dimensions of environmental geography. Competency in GIS and the ability to incorporate geospatial technology and enhance instruction are welcome.

Department of Political Science and Geography: The Department of Political Science and Geography offers bachelor’s degrees in Geography and Political Science, and contributes to the interdisciplinary undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs in International Studies. In addition, we offer undergraduate and graduate certificates in GIS and Spatial Analysis of Coastal Environments, a concentration in Geospatial Analytics in the MS in Data Science and Analytics, and are proposing a MS degree in Geospatial Science and Technology. The department has an accomplished and diverse faculty and student body committed to social and environmental justice, and the successful candidate will enrich this atmosphere. Opportunities exist to participate in ODU’s Institute for Coastal Adaptation and Resilience (ICAR), teach in the Spatial Analytics Instructional Laboratory, and collaborate with expanding schools of Public Health and Data Science. The surrounding 14 municipalities of Hampton Roads offer tremendous opportunities for research and engaged scholarship. Old Dominion also has burgeoning partnerships with NASA Langley Research Center, Jefferson National Laboratory, and numerous state and local agencies and non-governmental environmental organizations.
