About the Opportunity

The Northeastern University Library seeks an creative and collaborative individual to guide an expanding range of services targeted at collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Digital Infrastructure, the Collaborative Research Services Coordinator ($75,000 - $85,000) leads the library's engagement with impact engines - clusters of researchers (faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students) seeking to address key challenges of the 21st century. The Collaborative Research Services Coordinator will work with research leaders and administrators across Northeastern's global network to plan for effective library engagement in nascent and established impact engines and will work to determine and establish the proper systems/workflows to ensure effective researcher integration across all spaces.

This is a two-year, grant-funded position with possibility of renewal.

Specific Responsibilities:

This position will shape and lead the Library's engagement with impact engines. In conjunction with impact engine leads, the Coordinator will assess collaboration needs and barriers, propose collaboration solutions tailored to each impact engine's social and logistical ecology, as well as work with impact engine staff to design and/or refine systems and workflows to ensure effective collaboration amongst all team. Working with impact engine staff, library and ITS colleagues, and others the Coordinator will design and/or refine systems and workflows to ensure effective collaboration amongst all team members, propose collaboration solutions tailored to each impact engine's social and logistical ecology, and monitor the effectiveness of collaboration within impact engines and adjusts solutions as required.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher, preferably in a STEM field
  • Significant experience working in a team setting; preferably in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrable understanding of the challenges of team-based and/or interdisciplinary research
  • 5+ years of experience in team research and/or supporting research teams
  • Demonstrated ability to lead staff, including setting performance objectives, and coaching/mentoring individuals to achieve maximum productivity
  • Excellent oral and written skills, ability to communicate with technical and non-technical individuals, and prepare project documentation
  • Demonstrable project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and leading workshops and individual consultations

About this project and the Library:

The Northeastern University Library has been awarded a grant by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to study and develop effective practices for collaboration and communication by researchers distributed across multiple locations, as is increasingly the case in Northeastern's expanding global campus network. This project will focus on Northeastern University's “impact engines,” interdisciplinary teams that span two or more of Northeastern's campuses and research locations throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
