The Director of the Center for Multicultural Student Programs and Services will oversee all operations of the Center, including budget, personnel management, scholarship programs, academic support services, and educational and social programs offered by the Center. The Director will serve as an institutional expert on multicultural student access, engagement, and retention and serve as a Division of Diversity and Inclusion’s liaison to Undergraduate Admissions, the Center for Advising, Career, and Experiential Learning (ACEL), and Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics (IEA), Office of Competitive Awards, Office of Global Opportunities, and Honors Tutorial College on all items related to multicultural student access, recruitment, academic support, engagement, and retention.

The Director works closely with Development and Alumni Affairs to cultivate alumni partnerships, donations, endowments, and programming to benefit the retention and graduation of multicultural students. The Director will oversee the Templeton, Rankin, Urban, DC-CAP, and Appalachian scholars programs, represent the unit to internal and external parties, including Development, Alumni Affairs, donors, parents, alumni, and community-based organizations. The Director will engage in advocacy and leadership work on campus-wide committees and in the local communities that the University serves and represent the center broadly, throughout the institution and with external constituents.
 

Duties Include:

1. Leadership and Strategic Oversight

· Provide leadership for the Center’s programming, academic support services, scholarship programs, strategic planning, and assessment efforts.
· Manage all operations of the Center, including budget, personnel management, and educational and social programs offered by the Center.
· Oversee and coordinate all data collection and assessment efforts for the Center.
· Serve as the Center’s liaison to Human Resources and hire, train, and supervise the Center’s Associate Director and other staff as needed.
· Provide oversight of all staff members in the Center including administrative support, administrators, graduate assistants, and undergraduate student workers.
· Participate in professional improvement opportunities when appropriate for the role of Director.
· Share best practices and remain current on trends related to multicultural student access, student engagement, and retention.
· Support other Division of Diversity and Inclusion initiatives as assigned by the Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion.
 

2. Community Engagement

· Serve as a Division of Diversity and Inclusion’s liaison to Undergraduate Admissions, the Center for Advising, Career, and Experiential Learning (ACEL), and Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics (IEA), Office of Competitive Awards, Office of Global Opportunities, and Honors Tutorial College on all items related to multicultural student access, recruitment, academic support, engagement, and retention.
· Collaborate with Development and Alumni Affairs to cultivate alumni partnerships, scholarships, and programming to improve access for and benefit the retention and graduation of multicultural students.
· Lead efforts with University Development, Alumni, and other campus and outside funding sources to secure funding for the Center’s programs and scholarships that increase access for underrepresented populations.

3. Education and Advocacy

· Serve as an institutional expert on multicultural student access, engagement, and retention.
· Engage in advocacy and leadership work on campus-wide committees and in the local communities that the University serves and represent the center broadly, throughout the institution and with external constituents.
