Job Summary
Simmons University is looking for an Associate Director to join the Office of Accessibility Services team located within the Center for Student Success. Reporting to the Director of Accessibility Services, the Associate Director will interpret documentation to determine appropriate accommodations for academic, residential, and clinical accommodations, provide academic coaching, consult with faculty on issues related to accommodations and inclusive course design, and help to reduce barriers to learning for students. The Associate Director will perform other tasks as assigned by the Director. This is a 40 hours a week position. This position may be eligible for partial remote work.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret psycho-educational reports and other
documentation to determine appropriate accommodations and services
for academic, residential, and clinical and field placement
accommodations. Ensure accommodation requests are fulfilled in a
timely manner.
- Meet with students to conduct intakes, review accommodation
requests, and address specific needs.
- Meet with students to provide academic coaching, self advocacy
skills, and strategies for effective communication with faculty and
staff.
- Ensure the implementation of accommodations in the classroom
and partner with faculty and departments on best
practices.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to promote Universal Design for
Learning and equal access to learning, programming, and events on
campus.
- Assist with the development and implementation of department
policies and procedures.
- Create and maintain relationships with working partners across
campus.
- Collect and synthesize departmental data and
statistics.
- Collaborate with campus partners and serve on committees across
campus.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related fields such as rehabilitation
counseling, special education, disability studies, higher
education, counseling, or psychology plus a minimum of 3 years of
relevant experience.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience working with federal laws regarding postsecondary
education and disabilities, including ADAAA and Section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Ability to manage and maintain confidential
information.
- Understanding of Universal Design for Learning.
- Experience with case management, counseling, and/or programming
in higher education or a comparable setting with a comparable
population of individuals with disabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to build and
sustain key relationships with students, faculty, staff,
administration, and with governing agencies.
- Ability to work as a member of a team in a dynamic and fast
paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and
verbal.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and
meet deadlines.
- Commitment to working with and fostering an inclusive
environment with a diverse population of campus members.
