Job Summary

This Assistant Director of Advising is focused on the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) undergraduate population to empower our students to become skillful problem-solvers and experienced decision makers, well positioned to emerge as technology leaders of tomorrow.  Cooperating with Drexel University’s faculty, administration, and external stakeholders in providing the developmental advising needs of CCI students.  The Assistant Director will understand, interpret, and enforce CCI and Drexel University policy, while exploring academic and professional options.

CCI’s Assistant Director of Advising will cultivate an environment that fosters and supports our varied student populations and is responsible for the ongoing development of student onboarding, communications, and support of escalated matters related to the developmental advising used to improve the student experience.  The Assistant Director will develop a culture of developmental advising where students support and mentor one another while furthering the goals of the College.  They will also be responsible for the ongoing development and effectiveness of supporting students in CCI specific special program initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Advise students about the development of academic and professional options, including the available resources
  • Perform necessary registration duties including transfer, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate credit reviews and course overrides
  • Assist students in improving academic standing and accessing available resources
  • Participation on university and school-wide committees as needed including hiring committees, the CCI’s Curriculum Committees, Student Veterans, Advising Task Force, Commencement, Academic Standing, etc.
  • Work closely with CCI administrators in recruitment efforts and events, such as Graduate Student Orientation, Open Houses, Readmission, and new student outreach and onboarding
  • Encourage, support and coordinate student engagement initiatives, including Learning Community support and/or administration, study abroad and student organization activities
  • Manage all aspects of advising communication plan to broad student populations while encouraging effective and timely advisor communications to specified caseloads by maintaining and updating a communications operations calendar

  • Work with academic units to ensure ongoing assessment of course effectiveness and make appropriate adjustments/edits/additions to curriculum based on assessment data and feedback
  • Work with the Director of Advising to assist with escalated student concerns
  • Supervise all aspects of CCI’s special academic programs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three to five years of academic advising or student services experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in curriculum development and assessment
  • Ability to manage/train faculty and peer leaders on curriculum and academic policies and procedures
  • Able to work independently and take initiative in directing own work and problem-solving, as well as working efficiently and effectively with others
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management and planning as well as coordinating with related parties and seeing projects through to a timely and successful conclusion
  • Ability to manage special programs involving CCI students and the work of academic advisors
  • Ability to handle exceptions to processes and work assignments with professionalism, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Demonstrable flexibility with respect to university and college evolving policies and procedures
  • Demonstrable proficiency with PC’s and related software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters’ Degree, preferably in Education or Higher Education Administration
  • Experience with Banner and Hyperion
