Specialist, College and Career Transition
POSITION TITLE: tSPECIALIST, COLLEGE AND CAREER TRANSITION
DEPARTMENT: Department of Adult Education and Literacy
DIVISION: Academic Affairs
REPORTS TO: Manager, Adult Education and Literacy
PLACEMENT: Support Grade 8
MINIMUM PAY RATE:t$49,497.49 annually

The College and Career Transition Specialist assists adult education students in identifying career pathways and making successful transitions to post-secondary education/training and/or employment. Documents client participation and progress as specified by funding source record keeping requirements. Requires flexibility, evening hours and some weekend work as well as local travel to class and employment sites throughout the district.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serve as a recruiter and advisor to all adult education college and career transition students; adhere to contract specifications and performance measures.
2. Interview Adult Education students and determine need for assistance according to grant rules and regulations. Maintain confidentiality of records.
3. Administer supportive programming for high need populations within Adult Education, including DACA recipients, homeless, and at-risk learners, advise and register students in JJC classes; perform individual and group orientations and registration activities.
4. Conduct transition workshops on topics relevant to employment and continued education (interviewing, resume writing, internet job search techniques, networking skills, career interest assessments, researching careers, financial aid, college knowledge, etc.) with the goal of assisting adult education students in making informed choices.
5. Assist in job fairs, job search expos, and outreach and recruitment activities; design and deliver all aspects of the marketing, orientation, and selection steps of the outreach and recruitment phase of the project.
6. Maintain collaborative relationships with college offices and departments, referral organizations, public, and co-workers.
7. Pro-actively assist participants in making the transition into education, training and/or gainful employment; implement processes which will lead participants to a positive outcome as they exit adult education.
8. Perform follow-up tasks as required by funding sources and others; make recommendations and/or take actions to improve performance measures and to ensure positive outcomes for grant reporting.
9. Assume other duties as may be assigned.
1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Social Services, Education or related area.
2. Minimum one year of successful work experience. Three or more years of successful work experience in a similar position may be substituted for the degree.
3. Familiarity with transition and workforce preparation strategies, marketing and recruitment, job search placement services, career and vocational education, adult learning principles, and multiple population groups.
4. Familiarity with college placement testing, application processes, advising and financial aid/scholarship processes preferred.
5. Strong personal computer and technology skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required.
6. Strong interpersonal, communication, time and project management and organizational skills required.
7. Local travel required. Access to transportation and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
9. Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.
1. Master’s Degree in education, counseling, or related area.
2. Three to five years of college advising experience, including underserved populations.
3. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
4. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or classroom/lab environment. May require working at various in-district locations.
