Position Summary:
The University of New Mexico College of Education and Human Services, Department of Teacher Education Educational Leadership and Policy, invites applications for four Lecturer II/IIIs for the 2023-24 academic year. The positions may commence as early as August 2023, but shall remain open until filled. Salary and rank will commensurate with experience and education.
New funding from the state of New Mexico and the University of New Mexico, provide a wonderful opportunity for an incoming cohort of lecturers in teacher education with expertise in literacy, social studies, mathematics, and science education. The department is seeking to hire lecturers with the following areas of expertise:
• K-8 Social Studies Education
• K- 8 Reading/Literacy Education (strong focus on structured literacy)
• K-12 Mathematics Education
• K-12 Science Education
TheUNM College of Education and Human Sciences is comprised of five academicdepartments, is a future-oriented, dynamic professional school organized toreflect the following values: Advocacy, Building Professional Identities,Collaboration, Building School/University Partnerships, Diversity and SocialJustice, Interdisciplinary Inquiry/Scholarship, and Teaching, Learning andLeadership.
The Department of Teacher Education,Educational Leadership and Policy is the largest in the college with theuniqueness of having both undergraduate and graduate education and educationalleadership programs that address K-12, administration, leadership and highereducation needs together as an academic unit.
Responsibilities:The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduateand/or graduate -level teacher education courses in the department related tothe content area. The successful candidate will be expected to assumeresponsibility of teaching the required licensure classes. A Lecturer II/III would hold a 4/4 teaching load and provide 20%of time to service activities. Lecturers will teach required licensure courses, such as:
- EDUC 330- Teaching of Reading to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students I
- EDUC 331/431- Teaching of Reading to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students II
- EDUC 333- Teaching Language Arts K-8
- EDUC 361- Teaching Mathematics K-8
- EDUC 353/EDUC 453- Teaching Science K-8
- EDUC 321/421- Teaching Social Studies K-8
- MSET 429- Teaching of Secondary Mathematics
- MSET 431- Teaching of Secondary Sciences

Minimum Qualifications:
• Earned Master's or Doctoral degree in education, or closely related field, with evidence of expertise in content area, by the appointed start date no later than August 2023.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching in public elementary (grades K-8) and/or secondary (grades 7-12) schools.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching in the content area in public elementary (grades K-8) and/or secondary (grades 7-12) schools in the U.S.
• Content expertise demonstrated by a degree in content area, with courses taken across the disciplines of the content area;
• Demonstrated commitment to and experience in diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities;
• Evidence of excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching in post-secondary, research-oriented settings;
• Theoretical knowledge of, and practical experience with, the design and teaching of culturally and linguistically relevant curriculum to students from diverse linguistic, cultural, rural, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
• Experience building partnerships between higher education, public schools and communities in support of teacher preparation;
• Theoretical knowledge of, and practical experience with professional development programs for novice and experienced teachers;
• Content expertise and leadership beyond coursework such as: university content teaching, membership in professional content organizations, professional development experience with the content, experience in instructional coaching, teacher education supervision, scholarship in the content area;
• Evidence of excellence or potential for excellence in teaching.
