GSPH-Environmental/Occupational Health - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (22010121)

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health invites applications for Research Technician III in the laboratories of Drs. Lefterov and Koldamova. The successful candidates will become part of a large, multidisciplinary neuroscience and environmental health community. The lab utilizes transgenic animals for modeling of Alzheimer's disease with goals of understanding the role of Apolipoprotein E and other risk factors for late onset Alzheimer's disease such as TREM2 and ABCA7.The candidate should hold a minimum of B.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience or related discipline with 2-3 years of laboratory experience. The successful candidate will be familiar with molecular and cellular biology techniques including: sequencing, PCR methods, protein analysis, histology, microscopy and cell culture techniques. The candidate will be expected to participate in research with transgenic model mice. The candidate will be trained in cell sorting techniques, RNA-seq library generation, histology techniques, and confocal microscopy. Candidates familiar with the performance and interpretation of Next Gen sequencing and analysis of transcriptional profiles and large data sets are particularly encouraged to apply. Strong computer and basic statistical skills are particularly important as is the ability to analyze, organize, interpret, and present data both verbally and in writing.

The candidate should be highly motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented. The individual should be able to prioritize multiple tasks and work independent. The incumbent will also assist processing and handling of samples associated with different studies, including sample entry into a central database. A Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related scientific field with 2-3 years of experience is required. Experience with molecular biology techniques is desired. Advanced computer skills are a plus. The incumbent will be directed on a weekly basis by Drs. Lefterov and Koldamova and managed by an assistant professor on a daily basis, but will be expected to independently perform and troubleshoot experiments and activities associated with maintenance of the transgenic mouse lines.

Bachelor's degree required with 2-3 years of related work experience. The candidate should hold a B.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline. Preference will be given to a candidate who has molecular biology experience.
