Position Opening in Introduction to Clinical Medicine I

Location:  UMHS Campus in St. Kitts

The University is seeking to recruit a seasoned and experienced full-time faculty member for the Department of Clinical Skills, in the School of Medicine. The candidate should be board certified preferably in internal medicine or family medicine, graduated from a U.S., Canadian, or U.K. medical school, and should have at least five (5) years medical practice and teaching clinical skills to medical students. The teaching experience should encompass didactic lectures and construction of clinical vignettes which includes small group discussions, incorporating a variety of preclinical experiences including the use of professional patients, grand rounds, high fidelity simulation, and hospital exposure.

The successful candidate would be expected to have a strong foundation of basic sciences to teach clinical reasoning. Experience in computer-based teaching, use of high fidelity simulation, and evaluation of clinical skills would be an advantage.

Introduction to Clinical Medicine I  (6 credits)

 

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic skills they will need to function as effective clinicians. History taking and physical examination skills are taught in practical classes using the latest technological media, including Laerdal patient stimulators (adult, pediatric and adolescent). The course addresses a range of clinical skills necessary for the future development as a physician, including clinical assessment and plan for the care of patients using library and computer search of evidence based information for patient care. Didactics are blended with laboratory date interpretation, radiology and other imaging techniques, and electrocardiography, introducing core medical information ready for the third and fourth years of clinical training. Critical emphasis is on the development of ethical standards, specialization, as well as education and licensing requirements in the various states. Class size is small-group to facilitate free discussion and pertinent technique demonstrations.

Salary and professorial rank is consistent with training and experience.  The full time position in St. Kitts involves three 15 week semesters a year with 7 week of personal leave time.  Approximately 95,000 USD of salary are tax free in St. Kitts and the US. Academic rank is based years of experience in clinical medicine.  The university provides an excellent health insurance policy for the employee which covers in St. Kitts as well as in the US.
