The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor (non-tenure track) starting July 2023. This is an academic year (9-month, “B” contract) position within the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources. The new hire will be appointed as the Director of the Biotechnology program, which is a multifaceted position, that involves i) overseeing student recruitment, retention, advising, and job placement, ii) seeking industry partnerships for student internship opportunities and downstream job placement, and iii) a teaching load commensurate with their role as teaching faculty, including laboratory courses, individual study, and didactic lecture courses. Industry experience is not required but highly encouraged.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related fields.  Demonstrated potential for effectiveness in teaching, including a strong desire to work with and supervise undergraduate students.  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary department of professionals. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • At least two or more years of experience teaching Biotechnology or Molecular Biology courses that include a laboratory.  Prior teaching experience, and/or prior research experience in the Biotechnology sector are preferred.  Encouraged to apply: applicants with strong evidence of effective teaching, and advising of undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. Department Information

 

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is one of four departments within the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources. The department has approximately 400 undergraduate students, 35 graduate (M.S. + Ph.D) students, and 17 faculty members with areas of research emphasis in arthropod disease vectors, human health, and plant biochemistry and molecular biology. The department has access to modern facilities including cores in Genomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, Analytical Chemistry, and Imaging.

 

The Biotechnology Program is housed in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Currently, the program has a total of 67 undergraduates and 15 masters students. The University of Nevada, Reno Biotechnology Program was considered one of the best 20 Biotech Programs ranked  15th in the nation, according to “Money” Inc magazine (2019).
