Department Summary

The Department of Linguistics, an academic unit of the College of Arts and Sciences, provides undergraduate and graduate degrees. The department is comprised of full-time professors and instructors, graduate employees, and administrative and staff positions who work to support doctoral students, master's students, and undergraduate major students in Linguistics.

Position Summary

The Department of Linguistics is seeking qualified applicants for its open pro tem instructor pool to fill positions as needs arise. We are particularly interested in instructors of functional and cognitive linguistics, as well as second language acquisition and foreign language teaching methods. Instructors spend 90% of their time on teaching responsibilities, and 10% in service.

Pool positions are limited duration appointments, potentially renewable up to a total of three years. In limited circumstances, there is the possibility of renewal beyond three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field.

  • Professional experience, demonstrated ability or potential for quality teaching
  • Commitment to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
