Assistant Professor of Human Biology

The Natural Sciences and Math Division at Southwestern College seeks a Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology (Human Biology).

Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses that contribute to the core requirements for majors in the Natural Sciences, with specific emphasis on the Health Sciences degree and pre-nursing courses. These courses could include Anatomy & Physiology, introductory and capstone Health Science seminar classes, Medical Terminology, Nutrition, and Essentials of Biology. Additional teaching assignments could include upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that support and complement current departmental offerings. This position will also contribute to introductory courses for majors and courses within the general education curriculum.

Primary Responsibilities

• Customary teaching load is 4 courses per semester (12 semester hours) in undergraduate courses.  This position will have its main focus on the pre-nursing undergraduate program. 
• Departmental duties include advising students majoring in Health Sciences and/or Biology to prepare for careers in healthcare.
• Other duties include participating in department and campus-wide committees, collaborating with faculty on Natural Science and Math Division programs, and service to the campus and community.
• Maintain professional currency in field by participating in field-relevant conferences, professional development, and creative activities.   

Qualifications

• Terminal Degree (Ph. D. preferred) in Biology, Human Biology, Health Sciences, or some closely related field. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and excellence. Teaching experience at the undergraduate or secondary level is recommended.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
