Assistant Professor in Sociocultural
Anthropology
Department of Anthropology
New York University Arts and Science
The Department of Anthropology invites applications from an
outstanding anthropologist for a tenure-track position in Culture
and Media. Candidates will teach at both the undergraduate and
graduate levels, joining faculty in
our well-known Certificate Program in Culture and Media, a joint
program of Anthropology, Cinema Studies, and the NYU Film School,
now in its thirtieth year. The position is to begin
September 1, 2022 pending budgetary and administrative
approval.
The Department seeks candidates with training in sociocultural and
visual anthropology; anthropological research on some dimension of
visual or other media compatible with our focus on the ethnography
of media; knowledge of the history and theory of ethnographic film
including contemporary debates; and a track record in ethnographic
documentary production sufficient to teach and supervise students
in using non-linear facilities. We especially welcome
candidates who bring a record of work that promotes equity and
inclusion in their research, teaching, and service.
Deadline for applications is October 1, 2021. Please apply online
at http://apply.interfolio.com/92890
with a cover letter, CV listing contact information for
three confidential references, a research and teaching statement,
and a statement on diversity and inclusion. As diversity
and inclusion are central to both the NYU and departmental mission,
for the latter statement we ask you to provide a brief paragraph
telling us how diversity and inclusion figure in to your past
and present teaching, research, community engagement, and/or life
experience, as well as how you would bring issues of diversity and
inclusion to bear on the teaching and programming of NYU
Anthropology. Information about diversity and inclusion statements
may be found at
