The Department of Music at Valley City State University is seeking a choral director to join a growth-oriented team committed to implementing a 21st-century music experience across the curriculum. 

The primary responsibility of this position involves leading Concert Choir and University Singers (auditioned chamber ensemble).  Other teaching duties will be assigned according to candidate strengths and departmental need.  The successful candidate will be a dynamic instructor committed to building positive relationships with students, campus personnel, and public-school music teachers within the region.  All full-time music faculty are expected to participate in academic advising, recruitment, department assessment, maintain/update course and program curricular content, contribute to campus committees, and perform other duties as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Earned Master's degree in Music 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Earned Doctorate in Choral Conducting 
  • 5 years or more leading a successful choral program at the K-12 and/or collegiate level(s) 
  • Experience teaching in the applied vocal setting 
  • Experience teaching in an online setting 

Compensation and Rank: 
The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications, and typically ranges from $42,000 to $48,000 annually. The Music Department has committed to enhancing the educational legacy of the institution by combining advanced music technology with traditional educational practices.  This commitment is reflected through the spring 2022 completion of the VCSU Center for the Arts.  This $32 million state-of-the-art facility includes a 350-seat performance hall, a 100-seat recital hall/choral room, an extensive audio production studio, an instrumental rehearsal room, piano and computer labs, large and small practice rooms, and faculty offices/studios.

The 55-acre campus, one of the most attractive in North Dakota, is bordered on the south by a forested hillside and on the north by the Sheyenne River. Campus architecture features a graceful blend of historic and modern buildings. The entire campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a Historic District.? VCSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The university is located in the southeastern part of the state in the city from which the institution takes its name. Valley City has a population of approximately 6,500 and is located 60 miles west of Fargo on Interstate 94, making the campus easily accessible both from the east and west.?
