POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for planning, coordinating and directing of all daily activities related to building maintenance, housekeeping and grounds. Will be required to manage various construction/renovation projects as necessary during daily operations. Responsible for assisting the Associate VP with various administrative/management functions.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Actively participates in the employee selection process.

Establish schedules and assignments for housekeeping, maintenance and grounds departmental staff.

Inspects work activities to ensure workers are following prescribed procedures to meet departmental and university standards.

Responsible for all departmental work orders from inception to completion, inspections and related reports.

Work with Lead Floor person to maintain inventory of custodial supplies.

Coordinate special set-ups for campus events such as Commencement, etc.

Supervise the electrical, air conditioning, and plumbing work for the University.

Instruct maintenance workers in the proper methods, procedures and proper use of tools.

Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains the inventory of University-owned tools, equipment and supplies.

Inspect University-owned facilities on a regular basis for purpose of preventative maintenance.

Investigate and evaluates complaints from building occupants.

Coordination of all of the University's services related to building maintenance, housekeeping and grounds maintenance.

Ensure all environmental, electrical, gas and plumbing codes are adhered to when maintenance and renovations are performed in University buildings and facilities.

Make recommendations to Associate VP as to which repair jobs may be done in-house or with outside contractors.

Establish a priority list of work to be performed.

Work in close collaboration with Student Services, Public Safety, and other departments within the University community in resolving common problems relating those departments and Physical Plant.

Serve on University committees as requested.

Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Performs routing assignments alone, following established standard practices. Sub-standard conditions are questioned and resolved with immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Delegates and supervises the work of Cleaners, Maintenance Crew, Maintenance Mechanics and Grounds personnel.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Management or related field.

Minimum of two years supervisory experience and computer literacy required.; working knowledge of CAD programs.

Ability to operate and teach employees the use of all mechanical machinery.

Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance techniques and procedures.

Ability to investigate and evaluate complaints from building occupants.

Ability to maintain records such as work order logs, inventory controls, and building information.

Provide leadership and foster conditions in the sections under his/her line of management which will promote conservation of resources and effective performance.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

May be required to lift, push and/or pull up to 5() lbs.

Tuition Benefit

After 1 year of continuous full‐time service, employees are eligible to enroll in STU’s bachelor and master courses, tuition‐free. The program will cover a maximum timeframe of 125% of credit hours attempted toward the degree program. Employees may enroll in STU’s doctoral program, with a 40% tuition discount, under the same conditions.
