The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM), Wisconsin’s premier public urban research university, seeks an experienced, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as Director of Financial Planning and Analysis.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Business and Financial Services & Chief Financial Officer (AVC-BFS) and providing leadership to a team of five direct reports, the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis leads UWM's $677 Million operating budget planning, as well as resource allocation, management reporting and forecasting, and gives a range of analytical support. The Director works closely with the AVC-BFS, divisional and campus leadership, UW System financial leadership, as well as governance bodies to develop and implement effective financial strategies that respond to and support UWM's mission.

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis will join the university at an exciting and pivotal time. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is currently at the beginning stages of implementing its 2030 Action Plan, a strategic plan providing the framework for UWM to advance student success and fulfill its mission as a research and access institution that enhances and improves the quality of life in southeastern Wisconsin. One of the priorities of the 2030 Action Plan is the review of the institution's budget model. The Director will serve as a strategic partner to the AVC-BFS and other campus senior leadership as a lead participant in budget model revisions.

Director of Financial Planning and Analysis candidates will have proven financial analysis and modeling skills. They will be collaborative, strategic thinkers, able to integrate complex operational and financial considerations to support the decisions of senior leadership and convey complex financial information to a wide range of audiences.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible functional and management experience in operating budget development, corporate or campus financial planning
  • Experience leading and managing a team of financial professionals


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance and/or a CPA License
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in financial planning and budgeting, or a closely related field, preferably in higher education
  • Significant experience successfully leading financial teams, with demonstrated ability to prioritize work on multiple projects and meet critical deadlines, while maintaining a high level of performance
  • Experience with complex enterprise financial management and reporting systems (e.g., budgeting and forecasting, general ledger, student information system modules, etc.)
  • High level leadership experience in operating budget development in large institutions with expenditures of more than $100M
