Job Summary
This position, under general supervision, lays out, installs, remodels, and maintains pipe systems for heating/chilling water hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and steam systems within power houses, distribution systems and buildings to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities.

The wage for this position is $48.17 per hour

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for this vacancy must:
  • Completion of an apprenticeship approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a steamfitterOR formal recognition of status by the appropriate international or local trade organization or a similar formal validation of journey status; OR some combination of formal education (associates degree, technical diploma, vocational certificate) and/or training and experience totaling seven years of full-time experience in the following work processes:
    • Installation of residential and apartment heating systems.
    • Installation of industrial and commercial heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems.
    • Installation and repair of powerhouse systems.
    • Repair and servicing of all types of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.
    • Installation and final testing of all types of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
    • Installation and final adjustment of electronic environmental controls.


  • Evidence of advanced skills in diagnosing and repairing HVAC/DDC systems
  • At least 10 years of experience working in the capacity of a Controls Specialist at the journey worker level or equivalent.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE as defined by policy


Preferred Qualifications
Highly qualified candidates will also have:
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting experience in the HVAC/Controls field in a university or commercial setting
  • Completion of an apprenticeship approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a steamfitterOR formal recognition of status by the appropriate international or local trade organization or a similar formal validation of journey status. Provide copy of United Association Steamfitter Card.
  • Evidence of strong customer service skills
  • Evidence of experience installing and/or modifying direct digital control sequence of operation programs
  • Welding certifications
  • Completion of OSHA 10 or higher
