Description
Assistant Professor, Intersection of liberal arts and quantum information science, AI, and data science

Salary and Start-up: Commensurate with Experience

Stony Brook University, a flagship university of the State University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in liberal arts and either AI, data science, or quantum information science. The position is open to candidates with specializations in a range of fields, including media studies, data science, the digital humanities, literature, philosophy, and rhetoric and composition.

We seek a candidate with a track record of excellence in research, scholarship, and teaching; who builds connections between the liberal arts and the computational arts; and who has experience with cross-disciplinary approaches. We welcome candidates who have a commitment, in addition to traditional scholarship, to translating their research to engagement with diverse publics beyond the academic community.

This position is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate who does truly hybrid work — for instance, by combining quantitative approaches with the liberal arts, building tools and writing, and/or the theoretical and the practical — and wants to grow in a university that provides strong institutional support and an enthusiastic network of colleagues.

The successful candidate will join a community of interdisciplinary scholars who keep Stony Brook at the leading edge of innovation in the computational humanities. The university is a leader in quantum computing. We have several research centers that support interdisciplinary work, including the Institute for Advanced Computational Science https://iacs.stonybrook.edu/, Institute for AI-Driven Discovery and Innovation https://ai.stonybrook.edu/ , the Humanities Institute https://www.stonybrook.edu/humanities/ , and the Program for Intelligence in the Arts and Engineering.

The appointment will be hosted in a humanities department appropriate to the candidate's field of study. The teaching load is 2/2.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in hand by the start of the appointment.

Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of references, and recent publication.
