Job Description:

OFFICIAL TITLE: Staff Associate for Multicultural Affairs (Grant-funded/1 Year Appointment)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Multicultural Affairs/Alternatives for Individual Development
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise student employees

General Statement of Duties: The Staff Associate for Multicultural Affairs will primarily be responsible for the coordination of the Alternatives for Individual Development Program, collaboration and support of academic support systems assisting with wraparound and retention efforts associated with the programs within the OMA office. In doing so, the incumbent will work with students from recruitment, summer bridge program and academic year round student development, and tracking students' progress using both qualitative and quantitative measurements. This position is a grant-funded, one year appointment.

Responsibilities:

1. (E) Assist with leading the coordination of the Alternatives for Individual Development Program for both the academic year and the summer program. a. Requires availability of some Saturdays and supervision of the overnight for residential summer component.
2. (E) Provides outreach and assists in recruitment of program participants for Alternatives for Individual Development (A.I.D.).
3. (E) Recruits, trains and serves as coordinator to peer advisors.
4. (E) Collaborate with OMA staff to design, implement curriculum of instruction.
5. (E) In conjunction with the Assistant Director, advises and assists program participants in academic, career, social, financial transition and adjustment.
6. (E) In conjunction with the Assistant Director, assist in the leadership and coordination of the affinity support groups-Young Women's Circle and/or Young Men's Group.
7. (E) Assists the Director in collaborating with university partners across divisions and in the community to further develop, promote and achieve program goals and objectives including educational, multicultural student engagement, mentorship, co-curricular, and leadership development opportunities.
8. (E) Provides and coordinates academic support to all program participants.
9. (E) Provides assistance, collaboration and support with other pipeline programs with OMA.
10. (E) Coordinates networking and cultural activities.
11. (E) Maintains accurate data, both qualitative and quantitative to measure the effectiveness of programming and to monitor students' progress; completes reports as necessary.
12. (E) Assists the Director as necessary.
13. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
14. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.
15. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 1 - 3 years of related work experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with educational student development.
  • Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience with educational, cultural, and recreational programming.
  • Availability to work off hours including some Saturdays and overnights to accommodate the residential summer component of the A.I.D program.
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check and CORI check.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. This is a grant-funded, temporary 1-year appointment. The firm annual salary for this position is $56,000.
