Position Summary and Responsibilities
Vassar College is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator/Survivor Advocate in the Support, Advocacy, and Violence Prevention (SAVP) Office. The SAVP Office provides individualized support and advocacy to survivors of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, relationship abuse, dating violence, or sexual harassment, past or present. SAVP also provides support to friends, family members, or other direct supporters of someone impacted by interpersonal violence. In addition to providing support and advocacy, the SAVP Office oversees campus prevention programming, including consent education, healthy relationship education, bystander intervention trainings, community awareness, and other workshops for students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
Reporting to the Director of the Support, Advocacy, and Violence Prevention (SAVP) Office, the Program Coordinator/Survivor Advocate will coordinate sexual violence prevention programming for students and employees, as well as provide direct support and advocacy to students who reach out to the SAVP Office. In partnership with the SAVP Director and SAVP student employees, the Program Coordinator conducts and evaluates violence prevention programming that is responsive to student interest and the needs of the campus community.

As a Survivor Advocate, this position utilizes a trauma-informed and survivor-centered approach to provide students with emotional support, discussion on reporting options, academic relief, housing changes, safety planning, and connection to on/off campus resources. The Program Coordinator/Survivor Advocate demonstrates a continuous commitment to equity, inclusion, and an intersectional framework to ensure that programming and support services address the needs of all students on campus.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate comprehensive violence prevention programming on topics of consent education, healthy relationships, boundaries and pleasure, supporting a survivor, and bystander intervention for all incoming students, student leaders, student athletes, other student populations, as well as faculty, staff, and administrators of the college.
  • Provide individualized support and advocacy to student survivors, and to those directly supporting a survivor.
  • Work with campus partners (Title IX, Dean of Studies, Counseling Services, Case Management, Health Promotion and Education, Residential Life, Health Services, etc.) to provide appropriate referrals and holistic student support.
  • Partner with SAVP Director, SAVP student employees, and campus partners to develop, organize, and facilitate relevant violence prevention programming that is responsive to student and employee needs.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Health Promotion and Education as it intersects with SAVP (i.e. sexual health, consent and alcohol/other drugs, and more).
  • Evaluate effectiveness of prevention efforts on a continuous basis.
  • Supervise a team of student employee interns throughout the academic year.
  • Participate in monthly SAVP Advocate meetings and the advocate on-call rotation.
  • Document and maintain all student support related information including referrals and follow-up in a manner that protects individual privacy and confidentiality.
  • Weekly 1:1 supervision with the SAVP Director.
  • Co-facilitate weekly SAVP student staff meetings.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience providing support and advocacy to survivors of sexual violence or intimate partner violence.
  • Experience developing and facilitating violence prevention or similar educational programming.
  • Experience working with college age populations.
  • Strong organizational, planning, analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of survivor-centered approach and current best practices in responding to trauma.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and gender identities.
  • Experience and competency working with historically marginalized student groups such as but not limited to LGBTQ+ students, students of color, international students, students with disabilities, and first generation students.
  • Ability to work effectively with college-age individuals and groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including effective public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to use initiative to organize and follow through with complex tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to create and present universally accessible learning materials.
  • Ability to effectively teach and give presentations to small and large audiences.
  • Excellent ability to work appropriately with confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a college setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes.
