Director of the Carleton Symphony Band and Instructor or Lecturer in Music

The Department of Music at Carleton College invites applications for an Instructor or Lecturer to serve as Director of the Carleton Symphony Band beginning September 1, 2023. The position also includes the role of area coordinator for winds, brass and percussion. This is a 0.75-time continuing appointment with an initial two-year term followed by longer-term renewals upon successful reviews.

We seek a dynamic teacher and performer with an understanding of, and commitment to, music performance in an undergraduate liberal arts setting. Candidates should possess excellent communication and organizational skills and a vision for the future of wind ensembles at Carleton. A Master of Music is required; a doctorate (DMA) is preferred. The successful candidate will direct the Carleton Symphony Band, which meets three times per week during each of Carleton’s three 10-week academic terms. Additional opportunities and requirements may include teaching private lessons, coaching chamber music and teaching a related classroom course.

Instructors and lecturers at Carleton are continuing members of the faculty and central to the life of their respective departments and programs and of the College as a whole.
