Job Details
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for cataloging and classification of library
monographs using current library cataloging and metadata standards.
Resolves discovery issues arising from incorrect or outdated
bibliographic and portfolio records. Maintains quality of existing
records by editing, correcting, enhancing, reclassifying, and
resolving cataloging discrepancies as needed.
- Develops and shares expertise in all cataloging-related aspects
of the library's database, including editing, inventory,
import/export of records, managing sets, and analytics. Develop
training materials and documentation for library staff in the
application of metadata standards and cataloging policy and
procedures, workflows, and local practice on wiki and
document-sharing sites.
- Develop and implement goals and objectives for cataloging
activities. Develops policies, goals, procedures, and workflows for
cataloging and processing library materials in all formats for best
quality records in the most efficient manner.
- Provide day-to-day supervision and plan the work of interns and
undergraduate student workers. Monitors cataloging and library
software listservs; keeps up-to-date on enhancements and changes in
cataloging standards.
- Manage special projects including conversion projects from
Dewey to LC, elimination of backlog, collection management. Assists
and participates in library planning, access services to provide
enhanced access to collections.
- Perform related duties as assigned to meet departmental,
library, and institutional priorities, goals, and objectives
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA
accredited institution
- At least 3-5 years’ experience as a cataloger.
- Professional library cataloging experience to include
experience working with an integrated library system, experience
with cataloging practices including knowledge of RDA, Library of
Congress subject heading practice, and with cataloging/metadata
tools including OCLC Connexion, ClassWeb, and MarcEdit.
- Strong attention to detail, strong organizational skills,
excellent communication skills, and the ability to work
independently as well as collaboratively.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Library of Congress Subject
Headings
- Innovative and tech-savvy with strong problem-solving skills
and an aptitude for troubleshooting
- Collaboration skills, demonstrated success working on teams,
and willingness to share expertise with colleagues and
subordinates
- Demonstrated experience organizing or managing projects,
balancing priorities, and setting and meeting deadlines
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity
- Experience working in an academic library.
- Experience using FOLIO.
- Supervisory experience of catalogers/ MLS level interns
- Knowledge and/or experience with BIBFRAME.
- Technical services skills such as FTP, scripting, and querying
data with regular expressions and/or SQL
- Experience with batch loading, editing, and deleting of catalog
records
- Pick-up, carry and move items up to 25 lbs.
- Push library book carts containing books.
