Purpose of Job
  • Teach coursework in the Culinary Arts, Pastry, and Baking Programs.
  • Develop curriculum and provide training and student support to produce graduates who meet entry-level employment criteria for positions in the culinary field.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred (in field)
  • Certified Culinary Educator (CCE) or Certified Executive Chef (CEC) preferred but not required
  • ACF accreditation as a Pastry Chef
  • State Teaching Certification not required

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of four years full-time experience in food service industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Preference given for prior teaching experience.

Essential Job Functions
  • Teach various classes in the culinary disciplines to prepare students for work in the culinary industry
  • Provide input to continually improve upon the curriculum within the culinary programs
  • Deliver program curriculum by creating and following weekly lesson plans.
  • Refresh courses by using new teaching strategies and/or revamping course materials.
  • Work in conjunction with the Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator and dean on course revision, curriculum mapping, and outcomes assessment.
  • Work in conjunction with student advisors, program coordinators, and the dean to resolve students’ academic and nonacademic issues
  • Serve as a role model for the students by demonstrating an excellent work ethic; portraying professionalism, including dress; and providing motivation for industry success.

  • Stay current on industry, market, and competitive trends.
  • Support PTC student and employee events as appropriate, which may be held on Saturdays or evenings.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, team meetings, and other departmental/institutional functions.
  • Support PTC’s overall success by performing additional duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Equipment used includes all kitchen equipment, a desktop or laptop with Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
Work generally performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
