PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Academic Chair of the School of Nursing provides primary leadership and overall program management to the staff and faculty that comprise PTC’s Associate of Science in Nursing and Practical Nursing Programs. Using an evidence-based approach, the Academic Chair will facilitate faculty development in teaching effectiveness, educational theory, and curriculum design by fostering positive relationships that empower faculty to deliver excellence in nursing education.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Master’s degree in Nursing Education or a related field
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field preferred
REQUIRED TRAINING OR CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:
Current/Unencumbered License as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Posses an understanding of program assessment and accreditation processes/procedures
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible faculty and administrative experience in a nurse education program, or an equivalent combination of experience and education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in budget preparation and maintenance

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Professions, employ effective strategic enrollment and retention management strategies to grow and maintain student enrollment
  • Safeguard the quality of instruction and participate in faculty and program review, evaluation, and strategic planning
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Professions, work to develop a strong team of full-time and adjunct faculty including hiring, mentoring, advising, directing, and evaluating
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Professions and the Dean of Education Systems, Professional Studies, and Online Education, work to identify, plan, and implement faculty professional development opportunities
  • Develop, strengthen, and ensure the effectiveness of student support systems
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Nursing and Healthcare Professions, plan and administer the School of Nursing annual operational and payroll budgets
  • Determine faculty teaching and clinical instruction assignments
  • Oversee the process of clinical site evaluation to ensure the ability of the agency to provide a clinical experience that meets the objectives for application of theory and clinical course objectives. Assure students are properly oriented to clinical assignments
  • Participate in the planning and review processes for the recruitment and admission of qualified students
  • Organize, plan, and attend program specific Advisory Board Meetings
  • Determine transfer of credits for potential incoming nursing students
  • Prepare data and other written materials for all required state and programmatic accreditors: annual reports, self-studies, surveys, and site visits
  • Improve and sustain accreditation standards, i.e., licensure pass rates, job placement, and program completion rates
  • Resolve student issues that escalate above faculty and Program Coordinator
  • Provide oversight to departmental committees
  • Identify program outcomes in collaboration with faculty
  • Contribute to PTC's overall success by performing additional duties as needed

  • Ability to demonstrate evidence of knowledge and skills related to nursing education, teaching adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation

WORK SCHEDULE:
Full-time – 40+ hours per week with additional time as needed. Attendance at special school events, such as graduation, also required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Equipment used includes desktop or laptop with Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
Work generally performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform the essential job functions.
