Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field or Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 3-5 years experience in athletic training after certification.

License/Certification Required

BOC Certified

Eligible for state license by the State of North Carolina Board of Athletic Training

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works under supervision of the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Health, Wellbeing, and Performance and directly oversees the OLYMPIC athletic training services.
  • Responsible for coverage of athletics at the discretion of the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Health, Wellbeing, and Performance. This includes following all policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries under the direction of the Appalachian State University Team Physicians.
  • Supervises and evaluates athletic training students.
  • Serve as a liaison between coaches, student-athletes, physicians, and parents.
  • Supervises and evaluates athletic training students and OLYMPIC staff.
  • Responsible for completing insurance claims and performing related record keeping not limited to, but to include seeking authorizations from student-athlete’s.
  • Maintain continuing education according to the requirements of the Board of Certification and the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.
  • Abide by the rules as set forth by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Appalachian Athletics, and the Sunbelt Conference.
  • Attend athletic training staff meetings.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the athletic training room.
  • Develop and distribute visiting team information in the form of an email in a timely fashion.
  • Serve as advisor to assigned Intern with his or her athletic responsibilities.
  • Serve as a mentor to assigned Intern.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Health, Wellbeing, and Performance.
  • Responsible for maintaining a master database of forms for the athletic training department.
  • Responsible for updating pre-participation exam forms and ensuring the forms on the website are current.
  • Responsible for hydrotherapy room, maintaining proper chemical balance, and whirlpool maintenance.
  • Oversee and perform monthly AED checks on assigned AEDs and update confirmation sheet.
