Description

The Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a full-time professional-track faculty member to coordinate, manage, and teach a large, multi-section hybrid course on business and professional communication in collaboration with the Cockrell School of Engineering. No experience in the field of engineering is required. The unit of academic appointment will be informed by the hire's area of expertise.

The ideal candidate for this role will be able to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with a range of campus partners in multiple disciplines. They will demonstrate professionalism and responsiveness in both their electronic and their interpersonal interactions. The ideal candidate coordinator will organized, proactive, and demonstrates a high level of solutions-oriented thinking, maturity, and integrity.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Job responsibilities will include teaching assigned sections each semester and executing the duties associated with course management for all sections. These duties may include:
  • Developing and revising curriculum as necessary.
  • Regularly supervising and training current instructors and teaching assistants on course materials such as lectures, activities, and assignments.
  • Identifying and onboarding new instructors and teaching assistants as necessary.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of the course, including course syllabi and course web pages.
  • Providing data-driven updates to leadership and other campus stakeholders.
  • Providing support for periodic accreditation reviews.
  • Acting as the liaison between the Moody College, Cockrell School, and technical support team.

Employment will begin in August 2023.

Qualifications

Strong candidates for this role will have the following:
  • A doctorate in Communication Studies, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in the field of communication at the college level.
  • Experience managing a multi-section course with a large teaching team.
  • Experience teaching or managing a hybrid course.
  • Experience in training or learning development (e.g., supervising teaching assistants).
  • Experience working in a cross-functional or interdisciplinary environment.
  • Experience with instructional design, especially in hybrid environments.
  • Experience with technical, science, or other STEM-related communication.
  • An exceptional command of written and spoken Standard American English, contributing to the clear and effective communication of ideas.
