Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate BSU’s Technology Transfer Program that requires the identification, capture and evaluation of inventions developed at BSU for consideration of intellectual property protection, commercialization, and further research partnerships.
  • Coordinate patent/copyright/trademark protection of all BSU intellectual property with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and be responsible for negotiating licensing deals on behalf of BSU .
  • Assist inventors and patent counsel in compiling information needed for the preparation of patent applications
  • Establish outreach programs to create awareness and educate faculty, staff, and students about technology transfer will be established.
  • Promote the identification and disclosure of technologies, discoveries, and inventions by University faculty, staff, and student employees
  • Coordinate entrepreneurship training and funding initiatives including the I-CORPs program and technology transfer and validation programs.
  • Complete annual report to share with BSU stakeholders and for internal/external outreach purposes.
  • Protect and commercialize technology for the benefit of the university
  • Serve as a liaison between researchers and off-campus commercial interests
  • Develop and maintain policy, education and training, maintain and report data
  • Bring together local, regional, and state resources that will help the University transfer its technology successfully to companies
  • Ensure licensee data and records are secure and maintained in a current, accurate, and usable form
  • Collaborate with sister institutions and other institutions of higher education to ensure best and current practices for effective and efficient tech transfer activities
  • Determined by department needs
  • Identify and apply for funding opportunity to support the technology transfer and commercialization enterprise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Education

A Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience

A Minimum (2) years in a tech transfer office or in developing, commercializing or bringing new technologies to market including, but not limited to, experience in technology transfer or technology required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current intellectual property best practices
  • Knowledge of licensing, patenting, and Business Model Canvas and Lean Launch
  • Ability to draft and interpret legal language in contracts and other documents
  • Strong scientific background, interpersonal, and management skills
  • Excellent communication skills and technical writing skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and organization skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and as a team member
  • Strong management skills
