Responsibilities:
The primary duties of the Research Facilitator are to:
- Work closely and collaboratively with researchers in the College of Nursing (CON) in the development of competitive grant proposals and research salary/scientist awards from conceptualization to final submission by playing a key role in the writing and editing of applications providing feedback on:
- Study design, methodology, feasibility, budget and other proposal components
- Addressing comments from previous grant reviews
- Adherence to agency application guidelines
- Writing clarity, logic and flow of the document(s)
- Prepare, coordinate, and facilitate nominations for CON faculty and support staff for various internal, local, provincial, international, and national awards
Secondary duties are to:
- Participate in the research onboarding of new probationary track faculty in collaboration with the Associate Dean, Research (ADR) and Senior Research Manager; and to provide feedback to new probationary track faculty to support the development of the faculty member’s program of research plan that is submitted to the Vice-President of Research and International Office (VPRIO) for review
- Participate as a collaborator or co-investigator on selected research projects
- Build capacity in grant writing by developing, implementing, and evaluating grant writing workshops for graduate nursing students and faculty
- Mentor, train, and supervise research assistants and MCNHR summer interns
- Assist with strategic grant planning for both new and established faculty
- Liaise between funding agencies as well as academic/community partners on behalf of researchers
- Identify potential suitable local and external research collaborators for grant applications
- Other related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean, Research
Qualifications:
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Applicants must hold a PhD, preferably in Nursing or a health related or social sciences field (e.g. community health sciences, psychology, sociology)
EXPERIENCE:
The successful applicant will have experience in:
- The development, critique, writing, and editing of research proposals
- Scholarly writing (e.g. research abstracts, award nominations and peer-reviewed publications)
- Supporting the development of research capacity through working with and mentoring trainees
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong oral and written communication skills including skills at editing and proof reading
- Ability to foster positive and productive working relationships within a team environment and across departments/units both within and external to the university
- Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands
- Ability to critically appraise methodological approaches including qualitative and quantitative designs
- Ability to critique and synthesize literature
- Ability to offer constructive critical feedback to support the development of competitive grant proposals
- Ability to receive and reflect upon constructive feedback on their own performance
