Position Summary:
The University of Idaho Landscape Architecture Program seeks a faculty member who is enthusiastic about design, place-based pedagogy, collaborative interdisciplinary research, service learning, and leadership opportunities. We seek individuals who can apply their professional experience to expand opportunities within their careers. All candidates should demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and graphic design communication skills. Appointments will be for the academic year and begin August 15, 2023. This is a 9-month, .tenure track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (dependent on experience and qualifications) position in Landscape Architecture. This position is a key to the instructional aspects of the Landscape Architecture program’s undergraduate and graduate degrees offered: the BS in Environmental Design, and the MLA master’s in landscape architecture.

We invite applicants who will add meaningful breadth to our faculty. Successful individuals will have a clear and inspiring vision of contemporary Landscape Architecture education, scholarship, and practice.Candidates will demonstrate expertise in instruction in one or more of the following areas of concentration: 1) Ecological restoration/ water conservation studio instruction, 2) interest in GIS, mapping, cartography, and planning, 3) professional practice, values, and ethics.The mission of the College of Art & Architecture (CAA) and the Landscape Architecture (LA) program is to nurture professionally accredited, studio-based programs, which connect students with communities to gain immediate experience addressing real-world problems. To these scopes, outreach and engagement activities with communities are integrated with teaching to prepare students for leadership in the design community with a commitment to planning, design, and stewardship of the natural and cultural environment. Focus is placed on environmental responsibility and the role of history and culture in exploring contemporary design issues.Individuals are expected to develop a dynamic curriculum to engage a diverse body of student­ learners. Candidates are equally expected to demonstrate commitment to the mission of the University and College of Art and Architecture through service, engagement, and development activities including recruiting, mentoring, and advising. Successful applicants should demonstrate the integration of academic instruction with civic and community engagement.The successful candidate will cultivate an open, diverse and inclusive climate that fosters excellence in all aspects of the program among faculty, staff and students. Successful candidates will have demonstrated teaching excellence, a commitment to interdisciplinarity, and the desire to foster innovative synergies between landscape architecture and other programs within the College of Art and Architecture, as well as with other academic units on the campus. Individuals should be able to use written scholarship to both deepen and make explicit the connections between their pedagogy and practice, articulate a clear research agenda, and demonstrate a commitment to producing peer reviewed work.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master of Landscape Architecture degree
  • Publication record of peer reviewed research
  • Experience teaching Landscape Architecture content at undergraduate and masters levels


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture or allied discipline
  • Professional experience or licensure in Landscape Architecture
  • Experience in collaborative and creative leadership
  • Expertise of digital modeling and analytical tools
  • Demonstration of interdisciplinary collaboration
