Researcher Molecular Theory Group - Software Engineers and Computer Scientists
The Opportunity

The Molecular Theory Group at Colorado School of Mines invites applications from software engineers and computer scientists for a position redeveloping a proof-of-concept computational chemistry code into an improved, redistributable package for use in chemistry and materials science research.

The selected candidate will work closely with our researcher to design optimized and parallelized electron charge density analysis algorithms using a modern development stack in the Julia programming language. Usage of School of Mines’ supercomputing facilities will be expected.

Responsibilities
  • Deployment of an automated software development tool-chain (testing etc.) using GitHub actions
  • Design, implementation, testing, and review, of analysis algorithms using the Julia programming language
  • Use of Jira and other team/project management software
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD, or bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience, or equivalent
  • Programming experience in C, C++, Python, Julia (preferable), or comparable languages
  • Parallel computing experience (shared/distributed memory, GPU)
  • Experience with computational science or other problems of applied numerical analysis
  • Experience with automated software development tools such as linters, style-enforcers, unit testing, code coverage checking, documentation generation, etc.
  • Knowledge of modern software development practices and techniques
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a small team environment

Pay Range

$60,000

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
