Musicology

 

POSITION:                             Full-time faculty tenure-track appointment in Musicology (Music Studies department

 

                                                Boyer College of Music and Dance, Temple University)

 

 

RANK/SALARY:                     Assistant or Associate Professor of Musicology. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:               The Boyer College of Music and Dance seeks a musicologist or ethnomusicologist who is committed to teaching the music of underrepresented populations. The candidate will collaborate with faculty to expand musicology coursework perspectives beyond the classical tradition, advance the undergraduate and graduate history curriculum, and deepen commitment to university and College initiatives in diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging (DEIAB). The selected candidate will teach students in all of Boyer’s music programs. The teaching assignment will include, but is not restricted to, undergraduate courses in the music history sequence, undergraduate writing-intensive courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, and graduate seminars. Candidates will be expected to advise graduate research, mentor students, supervise teaching assistants, and perform faculty service. 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                A completed doctoral degree in musicology or a related field is required by the time the appointment is made. The ideal candidate will have a record of publications with a national reputation or a strong promise of obtaining one. A primary research area in one or more of the following categories is preferred: American vernacular music, global music history, 20th / 21st century music. Candidates must be able to engage talented musicians in a variety of majors:  performance (jazz, popular, classical), musicology, music theory, music technology, composition, music therapy, music education, and dance. A record of outstanding teaching is required.
