Job Description: The College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Education & Innovation. We seek an innovative administrator who can provide direction for the development of new educational programing (e.g., online, interprofessional, etc.) to meet the health science workforce needs of today and in the future, as well as supporting and enhancing our current programming. As a newly minted R1 university, we want a visionary to join our team who can synergize our expansive research growth with formal and informal educational opportunities, in concert with our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Start Date: June 10, 2023
Visionary Responsibilities:
- Serve as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Team, formulating policy and strategic direction for education and innovation.
- Explore ways that the College of Health Sciences can enhance our online education presence, including leveraging the structure and resources of ODU Global.
- Develop ways to leverage ODU’s position as a forward-focused and innovative R1 institution located in an urban setting to elevate the educational enterprise for students and faculty in the College of Health Sciences.
- Support current diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts and develop new pathways to infuse DEI practices and learning opportunities into the formal and informal educational spaces within the College of Health Sciences.
- Work with leadership from other ODU Colleges/Schools to coordinate and expedite multidisciplinary and/or interprofessional educational opportunities.
Oversight Responsibilities:
- Graduate and Undergraduate Program Oversight to include:
- Catalog and curricular changes
- Managing student grievances and appeal processes
- Representation at recruitment events in coordination with UPD’s/GPD’s
- Review of Accreditation materials and external review processes
- Oversight of certification of faculty for graduate instruction
- Coordination and oversight of undergraduate and graduate curriculum committee
- Oversight of faculty workload report
- Oversight of College Advising Team
- Coordination of WEAVE assessment reporting
- Designated Committee Service
- Graduate Administrator’s Council
- Council of Associate and Assistant Deans (CAAD)
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned academic or research doctorate in a discipline of the college, or a closely related field with a record of distinguished research/teaching and professional accomplishments in alignment with at least the Associate Professor rank with tenure. Candidates must also have experience with educational programming and administration.
