Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess and maintain a current Commercial (Class A or B) driver license with a passenger and airbrake endorsement  
  • Possess a current DOT medical certification card documenting all necessary vision, hearing, and
  • health requirements.  
  • Meet and sustain a satisfactory driving record that meets and the underwriting requirements of the College insurance company 
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of vehicle maintenance  
  • Experience driving in adverse conditions (snow, ice and mountain passes) 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of driving buses
Major Responsibilities
  • Operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner 
  • Maintain trip schedule as outlined by the requesting departmental staff 
  • Maintain operating schedule and report any problems immediately 
  • Communicate effectively with passengers regarding weather conditions and vehicle status 
  • Make decisions on drivable conditions to assure safety of passengers  
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip checks on the vehicle and its special equipment to determine if there is sufficient fuel supply and if equipment such as steering gear, brakes, tires, etc. are in good working condition 
  • Follow state and federal transit regulations. 
  • Complete necessary driving logs  
  • Meet emergency situations in accordance with standard operating procedures (assist in safe evacuation) 
  • Comply with all pre-employment, randomized, and post-accident drug testing requirements   
  • Fuel vehicles when needed  
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Work with contaminants when checking engine fluids 
  • May be exposed to very hot or cold temperatures depending on the season 
  • May be exposed to sounds and noises that are distracting 
  • Sometimes must drive in very bright sunlight or when it is dark outside 
  • May have to drive in adverse conditions (snow, ice and mountain passes) 
  • May have to install and remove snow chains
Compensation

$25.00 per hour while driving, filling the vehicle with gas, administering pre-trip inspection; plus hotel room and meals if applicable. This is temporary position on an “at-need” basis according to FLC Athletics schedules.
