Pate Rate: $18.60/hour

The Academic and Career Pathways Guidance Division is seeking several casual, part-time Academic Advising Specialists. This position will serve new and returning PCC students, and is temporary approximately through October 2023, with the possibility of being renewed up to a maximum of 959 hours in a fiscal year.

The ideal candidate has diversity, equity, and inclusion training, a strong interest in working with students who sit on the margins and pulling them to the center, and an awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of first generation college students.

Primary duties:
- Working effectively with all members of the college community, including those from underrepresented and/or underserved backgrounds and identities
- Helping students develop academic goals and class plans
- Serving students in-person, virtually, by phone, and over email
- Referring students to appropriate academic and non-academic resources such as the Accessible Education Office, Financial Aid, Student Learning Centers, Basic Needs Resources, and Identity Centers
- Assessing students reading, writing, and math placements
- Performing unofficial transcript evaluations
- Providing information on credit and non-credit programs at PCC
- Presenting information to groups of students
- Helping students register for classes
- Creating and maintaining active case files/documentation on individual students
- Ability to use various technologies, including: general business software such as the Google suite, Zoom/teleconferencing applications, student information systems or databases, document management software

The employee can work up to 959 hours per fiscal year.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Available to work a flexible, hybrid (onsite and remote) schedule, including evenings and Saturdays
  • Ability to arrive to work on time at your scheduled location
  • Work a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Attend mandatory paid trainings and staff meetings
  • Willingness to work in multiple areas under the Academic & Career Pathways Division
