Job Description:

The Office of Equity and Inclusion at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Assistant Director for Student Diversity and Engagement (ADSDE) . The Assistant Director for Student Diversity and Engagement (ADSDE) will provide leadership geared toward developing and maintaining a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment to students from a diverse background at SUNY Oneonta.

The ADSDE will be committed to fostering the strategic initiatives on diversity and inclusion for the OEI as well as the College's broad mission on academic excellence, Inclusivity and student success through building inclusive communities and fostering a sense of belonging among students.

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
  • Coordinate the OEI Peer Mentor Program:
    • Recruit, train and supervise mentors
    • Match mentees and mentors and coordinate and assess activities and student progress
    • work with Mentors to create a marketing tool (promotional videos, publications etc.) for the Peer Mentor program
    • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions in the recruitment process for mentees
    • Support Mentors' participation in Admissions Events
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to foster recruitment of historically underrepresented students; attend Open Houses.
  • Plan and organize community building activities that provide students with a sense of belonging, connect students to appropriate campus resources, as the need may be.
  • Provide targeted assistance and advocacy to support the academic success and overall college experience of students from underrepresented backgrounds
  • Develop programs to increase student awareness and involvement in diversity related issues on campus; for instance, develop and coordinate a Diversity Peer Education Program in partnership with the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence.
  • Assist with the coordination of the Take Acton Oneonta Program - a Proactive Bystander program.
  • Assist with the planning and organization of the Annual Student Diversity Leadership Conference
  • Support the planning and organization of the Kente Graduation Ceremony.
  • Serve on assigned committees
Salary commensurate with experience : $50,148.


Requirements:

Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 1-year experience providing direct student support in a higher education institution/setting
  • Experience partnering with other offices and departments on programs/initiatives that support student engagement, including DEI programs
  • Experience mentoring and/or recruiting and training student mentors
  • Experience supervising student leaders or mentors
  • Excellent organizational and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in higher education; student affairs; diversity, equity, and inclusion; or related field.
  • At least 1 year of relevant full-time professional experience related to direct student support, especially students of diverse backgrounds
  • At least 1-year supervisory experience, preferably with student employees
  • Experience coordinating DEI-related activities and programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to understand and adapt, appropriately and effectively, to cultural differences within a group environment
  • Experience facilitating student engagement activities with students from diverse backgrounds
