Responsibilities:
Teach and develop science education courses for undergraduates and graduates as well as courses in line with the candidate's training and background, including methods for teaching science in secondary and elementary schools, and possibly introductory biology. Engage in scholarship; obtain external funding to support research, curriculum development, and/or our ongoing outreach programs; advise graduate and undergraduate students; conduct program assessments; and, provide service to the department, university, and discipline.
The Division of Mathematics and Sciences offers undergraduate majors in biology, biology education, environmental science, chemistry, chemistry education, mathematics, mathematics education, and geospatial information technology. It has 22 faculty members and approximately 280 majors. The Division also offers a masters programs designed for science educators. Delta State is a regional state university with an enrollment of approximately 3800.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Science Education or related field or an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with the equivalent of a masters in biology is required. Additionally, the successful candidate will have a minimum of three years of successful K-12 teaching experience, thorough knowledge of current research and practices in science education, expertise in standards based instruction and assessment, excellent oral and written communication skills, evidence of, or a strong potential for obtaining external funding, and experience and commitment in working with culturally and ethnically diverse student populations. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of and experience with accreditation requirements, processes, and standards such as CAEP.
Salary:
9 monthCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
