POSITION: Visiting Assistant Professor of Digital Arts

Stetson University seeks a digital artist whose practice emphasizes video, and who has other proficiencies in photography and/or graphic design for a 9-month, full-time appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Digital Arts, beginning in August 2023.

QUALIFICATIONS:
We seek a teacher-scholar who is committed to undergraduate education and modeling an active and engaged creative agenda for our students. Ideally, this new colleague should also be committed to pursuing collaborations with other creative disciplines on campus, such as theatre arts, digital arts, creative writing and/or music, within the context of the intense and rigorous intellectual culture of the University.

We are particularly interested in an artist with knowledge of contemporary practices for planning, shooting, editing, and presenting video works. Our students create works that range from documentaries to narrative fiction to art installations; the successful candidate ideally will have experience in a variety of video genres. We welcome new approaches and perspectives to digital arts pedagogy and practices, especially from a practitioner using new and emerging moving image tools.

The successful candidate must hold an MFA or equivalent terminal degree in Film/Video, New Media, Graphic Design or another relevant discipline and must be conversant with and engaged in contemporary practices of digital arts. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of creative projects that have been programmed for public exhibition. Candidates should also have a strong commitment to innovative teaching, a creative approach to pedagogical design and implementation, and a strong commitment to all aspects of diversity in our learning-centered community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will carry a 4/4 teaching load. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Digital Video Fundamentals, Advanced Digital Video, Digital Arts Fundamentals, and either Photography or Graphic Design. There is also an opportunity to co-teach the senior project capstone sequence in Digital Arts with current program faculty. Other courses will be based on the candidate’s expertise, and may include offerings for the University’s general education curriculum. Additional responsibilities will include mentoring students academically and professionally, especially during the completion of capstone projects and portfolio evaluations.
