Job Description

The Department of Psychology and Communication at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks an Assistant Professor of Psychology (tenure-track, 9-month position) to begin Fall 2023. Duties include teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses. A reduced load (2-2 for the first two years) is provided to allow for other duties, such as publishing research in psychology or closely related areas, and serving on departmental, university, and professional committees.

The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in Psychology or related fields. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment. Strong consideration will be given to candidates whose research centers on language cognition/development and/or cognitive development although all areas of developmental psychology (for example, but not limited to, child development, social and emotional development, aging, computational modeling, or individual differences) will be considered. Our department offers extensive opportunities for bilingual-bicultural research, and we would especially welcome candidates whose research closely aligns with these populations.

We desire candidates who: (1) have a strong record of or potential for sustained publication in peer-reviewed journals (commensurate with experience), (2) have the potential for or prior experience with seeking and/or securing external grant funding, (3) have a strong desire to work with diverse student populations, (4) have the ability to teach in areas that complement or strengthen our undergraduate and graduate psychology programs, and (5) contribute to the development of our forthcoming doctoral program in Bilingual Cognition.
