Job Details

Emporia State University’s Department of Art seeks a dynamic and innovative team member to fill a Gallery and Outreach Director position starting in July of 2023. This position will collaborate with faculty and community on exhibitions and events. This is a 12-month staff position that will report to the Chair of the Department of Art. 

 

Qualifications 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in art or/and related experience (3 plus years).  Previous gallery director experience preferred. 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Experience working with outreach programing and education.  Scheduling and budgeting.  Budget proposal writing experience.  Demonstrated communication and collaborative skills. 
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and general computer skills.  Social Media experience.  Management experience. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies 

 

  • Proficient in handling, installing, and hanging art objects of all media for gallery presentations.  Proficient in gallery design and layout.  Proficient in working with carpentry and paint tools.  Have good organizational skills. 
  • Matting and Framing 

Duties included but not limited to: 

 

• Manage day to day operations of the gallery, regular business hours 8 am -5 pm Monday thru Friday with some evenings for openings and special events.  

 

• Supervise undergraduate student workers and a Graduate Teaching Assistant. 

 

• Oversee the rotation of 10 + exhibitions annually in the Norman R. Eppink and Gilson Memorial Galleries, + additional exhibit spaces on campus. Exhibitions include work by visiting artist, students, faculty, and special projects. 

 

• Coordinate the scheduling of exhibitions in collaboration with Department and manage timelines for installation from conception to completion. 

 

• Collaborate with community arts events organizers and organizations. 

 

• Maintain Gallery equipment and supplies. 

 

• Promote exhibitions and the Department of Art through social media channels and other means. 

 

• On a limited basis facilitate unique display projects and the exhibition of artworks on campus.  

 

• Maintain the Department of Art permanent collection, housed in the work storage area, and facilitate the donation of additional works to collection.
