Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Grounds Worker provides grounds support relevant to Lone Star College campus exteriors. M aintains surrounding facility areas ensuring a clean, presentable and well-manicured environment for students, faculty, staff and external community members at all Lone Star College System's campuses.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain landscaping and grounds of one or multiple Lone Star College campus( s)
  • Remove trash container bags inside court yards and t hroughout campus grounds daily
  • Maintain irriga tion, ponds and water fountains; Diagnose and inspect sprinkler system timers, va lves, wiring, piping and heads
  • Provide direction to outside contrac tors performing ground services
  • Assist with setup of furniture moves or office/classroom relocation; Assist electricians re pairing outside elevated lights
  • Repair minor ground equipment and schedule major equip ment repairs with vendors
  • Maintain or repair structures (i.e. greenhouses, fences or benches)
  • Maintains interior plants in common areas by watering, fertilizing and r outinely spray ing insecticides
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Must be able to understand and follow directions given orally
    • Physically capable of performing heavy lifting (50 pounds) and labor intensive work assoc iated with grounds maintenance
    • Capable of safely operating powered equipment, such as: riding mower, brush hog, tractor; B e able to determine which equipment to use for a particular purpose
    • Knowledge of grounds keepi ng equipment experience helpful
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES :

    The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, and crouching or crawling in restricted areas .

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS :

    The work involves regular exposure to outdoor elements, and/or regular exposure to hazardous items such as chemicals, toxic or caustic materials, contamination, and electrical hazards. This exposure requires special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and be eligible for insurance coverage
    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $29,027 - $33,381.

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
