NKU is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access/Affirmative Action institution. In your role, you will be expected to ensure that students who interact with you have a high-quality experience that supports the vision of the institution.
Purpose of Position
A research associate position is now available in the new Molecular Neurobiology of Behavior Laboratory at Northern Kentucky University ( NKU ). Research is focused on using mouse models
to study the behavioral consequences of prenatal exposure to opioid drugs and identify
molecular changes driving these consequences. The research associate will work on projects
that improve how we model prenatal opioid exposure in mice, along with measuring social and
cognitive behavior as primary outcomes of exposure. To understand the neurobiology of these
behaviors, projects will examine brain tissue for gene and protein expression.
Primary Responsibilities
The research associate will work with undergraduate students to ensure successful completion of
research experiments and will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the lab.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ordering supplies, preparing drug solutions,
breeding animals, euthanizing animals, and ensuring the research space is compliant with NKU’s
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ( IACUC ).
Qualifications
Candidates must have at least a B.S. or B.A. in a discipline related to Psychology, Biology, or
Neuroscience. Preference will be given to candidates with prior laboratory and/or animal handling
experience, but it is not required. Pay will be commensurate with experience.
Applicants must submit a cover letter, a resume/curriculum vitae, and contact information for
three references. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position
has been filled.
